ELLINGTON, CT — Five months after closing for reconstruction, a small bridge on Strawberry Road has re-opened to traffic, with no more detour signs in sight.

The bridge over Abbey Brook, constructed in 1940, was deemed to be in poor condition more than a decade ago. In 2020, the Connecticut Department of Transportation said it was "structurally deficient."

The reconstruction project, estimated to cost $1.6 million, began June 19. The bridge re-opened Monday with a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony by First Selectman Lori Spielman.
