Structure Fire at Grower Direct Brought Under Control by Firefighters

Somers Fire Department and surrounding agencies responded to a large commercial building fire on Hampden Road on March 7.

SOMERS, CT – At 7:38 PM on March 7, 2025, the Somers Fire Department was dispatched to Grower Direct, located at 164 Hampden Road, for a reported structure fire. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy fire rapidly spreading through the complex, intensified by strong winds and a lack of immediate water supply.

Despite these challenging conditions, members of the Somers Fire Department, along with numerous mutual aid companies, worked aggressively to contain the fire and prevent further damage. Their coordinated efforts successfully brought the blaze under control.

“The dedication and teamwork displayed by our firefighters and mutual aid partners was incredible,” said Somers Fire Chief David Lenart. “Faced with strong winds and limited water supply, they overcame significant challenges to stop this fire.”

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) responded to assess potential environmental hazards, and at this time, no concerns have been identified.

One firefighter sustained a minor injury and was transported to Johnson Memorial Hospital for evaluation. No other injuries have been reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The Somers Fire Department extends its gratitude to all responding agencies for their assistance and to the community for its support.
