Submerged Vehicle Causes Traffic Disruption On Route 140 In Ellington

ELLINGTON, CT — A Honda sport utility vehicle became submerged in some water known as Broad Brook on Route 140 Wednesday morning, causing closure of the westbound side of the roadway for a period of time.

The incident took place around 7:30 a.m. east of the junction of Muddy Brook Road, and west of the Robert Tedford Memorial Park. Emergency responders closed the westbound side of the street, also known as Sadds Mill Road.

Police and town officials urged motorists to seek alternate routes and use caution in the area. The road re-opened around 8:30 a.m.

The Ellington Volunteer Fire Department on Facebook wrote: "Earlier this morning Ellington Fire Department responded to the area of 91 Sadds Mill Road for a motor vehicle accident with a car in the water. Occupants were reported to be out, but our members entered the water to confirm and to assist in vehicle recovery. The vehicle operator was transported to the hospital with minor injuries."
