Enfield PD Cracks Down On Shopping District Crime, 8 Charged: Police

The Enfield Police Department on Thursday said it conducted an organized operation targeting shoplifters in the town's shopping district.

ENFIELD, CT — Local police Thursday morning announced eight arrests as part of an organized police operation targeting shoplifters in the Enfield shopping district.

According to the Enfield Police Department, the department's community division, with help from detectives and the K-9 unit, conducted a "planned operation" on Thursday, Oct. 30, to "address retail theft in Enfield's shopping district.

That operation, police said, resulted in eight suspects, mostly out-of-state residents, being charged.

"Law enforcement worked directly with loss prevention from several stores to identify and apprehend shoplifters as they were actively committing larcenies," wrote the EPD in a release.

The following suspects were charged:

• Yanexi Chirinos, 19, from the Bronx, N.Y., was charged with organized retail theft, first-degree forgery, risk of injury to a minor, and fifth-degree larceny.

• Diego Diaz, 21, from the Bronx, N.Y., was charged with organized retail theft, first-degree forgery, risk of injury to a minor, and fifth-degree larceny.

• Hosmer Hernandez, 19, from the Bronx, N.Y., was charged with organized retail theft, first-degree forgery, risk of injury to a minor, and fifth-degree larceny.

• Mariangel Montoya, 20, from the Bronx, N.Y., was charged with organized retail theft, first-degree forgery, risk of injury to a minor, and fifth-degree larceny.

• Hector Valladares, 30, from the Bronx, N.Y., was charged with organized retail theft, first-degree forgery, risk of injury to a minor, and fifth-degree larceny.

• Karly Bond, 33, of Springfield, Mass., was charged with sixth-degree larceny and operating a motor vehicle without a license.

• Brandon Laux, 39, of Springfield, Mass., was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance.

• Maliza Gillespie, 19, of Hartford, was charged with sixth-degree larceny.

Court dispositions were not yet available Thursday morning.
