Enfield Recreation Department ​Announces Upcoming Programs and Activities

KINDERGARTEN BASKETBALL PROGRAM

An introductory basketball program for youth in Kindergarten will be held on Sunday afternoons at JFK Middle School beginning on January 8th. The program will consist of eight, forty-five minute sessions in which participants will learn the basic fundamentals of basketball while being exposed to the concept of organized youth sports. The program will be run by Recreation Department staff however, we are asking for parent volunteers to help. PLEASE NOTE: this is a drop off program. Parents will only be allowed into the gym for the last two classes. Registration will be limited to 40 participants (20 per session) and will be taken on a first come, first serve basis beginning on Friday, October 28, 2016. This program is for Enfield residents only. Participants may register for one of two time slots. FEE: $35.00 per participant. ELKS HOOP SHOOT BASKETBALL CONTEST

In conjunction with the Elks Lodge #2222 the Enfield Recreation Department is hosting a Hoop Shoot Basketball Contest on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at JFK Middle School. Hoop Shoot is a free event for Enfield residents ages 8 – 13 years old as of April 1, 2017. Pre-registration is required by 5 PM on Wednesday, November 30th at the Recreation Office. MONTHLY CRAFT CLASS

Join the Enfield Recreation Department for our monthly craft class. December’s class will get you ready for the holiday season! Participants will create a Gingerbread House. Fee includes all supplies and materials. Class will be held Saturday, December 3, 2016, 9:30 – 10:30 AM and is $2.00 per person. Pre-registration is required as spaces are limited. BABYSITTER SAFETY COURSE 101

This program is an entry level course for youth ages 10 – 15 years old. Participants will learn age appropriate skills necessary to care for children of all ages using team babysitting, mother’s helper, and individual babysitting concepts. All participants will receive a CD-book, handouts and a Babysitter Safety Certificate. Class will be held on Wednesday, December 28th, 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM at Angelo Lamagna Activity Center, 19 North Main Street, Enfield, CT. Fee is $46 Resident/$57.50 Non-Resident. Pre-registration is required for this program. Registration can be done online or in person at the Recreation office. Spaces are limited and fill quickly. Don’t delay, register today.

OPEN SWIM AT JFK POOL

Join the Enfield Recreation Dept. for Open Swim on Saturday, November 19, 2016. Open swim will be held 12:00 – 3:00 PM. All pool rules apply. Fee is $.50 for youth, $1.00 for Adults and $2.00 for families.

HOLIDAY HOUSE LIGHTING CONTEST

The Enfield Recreation Department in conjunction with Panera Bread is sponsoring a house lighting contest. Have a great time lighting up your home, decorating it in the holiday spirit. Official entry forms are available at the Recreation Office, online here or you can email your entry to RecreationSupervisor@enfield.org . Judging will take place Monday, December 5 through Wednesday, December 7. We ask for lights to be left on from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM. All entry forms must be turned into the Recreation Department by 5:00 PM on Friday, December 2nd. This contest is for Enfield residents only. Participants who won last year are not eligible for a prize this year but may participate if they wish. Prizes will be awarded for the following categories… BEST OVERALL, MOST SPIRITED, MOST CREATIVE & BRIGHTEST.

TORCHLIGHT PARADE AND CAROL SING

An annual event, the Torchlight Parade and Carol Sing will be held Sunday, December 4th. The parade will begin at 6:00 PM at Enfield Street School and end at the Town Green. The Carol Sing will begin at 7:00 PM in front of the Town Gazebo along with the tree lighting and Santa’s arrival. Please note there is no rain date for this event.
