ENFIELD, CT — Enfield responders are hosting a special event Saturday to help special needs children meet and get used to the folks who will help them should trouble arise.

Enfield firefighters will be hosting "Public Safety Day" at the Thompsonville Fire Department, 35 N. Main St., Enfield, from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27.

"This event is to help individuals in our special needs community to connect with first responders and see how different equipment looks, functions, and sounds," wrote event organizers.

All ages are welcome to the free event, and registration in advance is requested. This can be done by scanning a QR code visible on the event's flyer.

The hope is that a visit with responders ahead of time will alleviate some of the fears children might have should they need the services of rescuers.
