Enfield School Board Opts to Drop Any School Security Plan

The board did not vote on a proposal to hire workers to check the IDs of people entering the town's public schools.

So it looks like school secretaries will be handling security and admissions to Enfield’s Public Schools in the coming academic year.

School board members decided Tuesday night not to hire part-time workers to check visitors’ identification when entering town schools this fall, according to The Courant.

Apparently, it only took 15 minutes of discussion before the board decided not to act on a proposal to hire people to check visitors’ identification and have them sign into buildings — an alternative to the current program of having contract armed guards in schools buildings. The board previously voted to suspend the program after two years following the Sandy Hook School massacred in Newtown.
