Southwood Acres Among Top 10 CT Communities to Own a Home

New report ranks Enfield's Southwood Acres neighborhood as one of the best places for homeownership.

The Southwood Acres neighborhood of Enfield recently received the distinction of being ranked the seventh best town in Connecticut for homeownership by consumer advocacy website NerdWallet.

The site analyzed 60 Connecticut communities based on affordability (median selected monthly homeowner costs, median monthly household income and costs as percent of income) and population growth (homeownership rate and 2010-12 population growth), as well as median home values. The result is an overall score, ranging from 79 (Glastonbury Center) to 30.4 (Greenwich).

Southwood Acres garnered a score of 78 — putting it in second place — and ranked tops among the top 10 in homeownership rate with 90.2 percent (just ahead of Trumbull at 89.5 percent).

In their full report, NerdWallet has this to say of Southwood Acres:

Up north, near the border with Massachusetts, Southwood Acres is within driving distance of Hartford and Springfield, Mass., and boasts the highest homeowner rate among our top 10. Home prices are very reasonable, and median monthly homeownership costs are less than 30% of income. Southwood Acres is a neighborhood within the larger town of Enfield, whose claims to fame include housing Hallmark and the U.S. headquarters for Lego.
