Enfield Subway Robbery Reported 1 Day After Suspect’s Release From Jail, Police Say

Police said the man had been released from Department of Corrections custody one day before the Enfield Subway restaurant was robbed.

ENFIELD, CT — Enfield police say a former employee has been charged in connection with a robbery reported Tuesday morning at a Subway restaurant on Enfield Street.

Officers were called to the Subway location at 786 Enfield Street around 11:27 a.m., police said. Investigators said the suspect demanded money from the cash register.

When officers arrived, they determined a robbery had just occurred and that the suspect had already fled the business.

Police said the suspect implied he was armed and told the employee he would not hurt her if she complied. Investigators said the suspect removed cash from the register before fleeing the area on foot toward Thompsonville.

Through the investigation, police identified a former Subway employee as a possible suspect. Officers later located the individual on Lincoln Street in Enfield, where police say he confessed to the robbery and provided details that had not been made public.

Police identified the suspect as Thomas Sparzo, 29.

Police said Sparzo was charged with third-degree robbery and second-degree breach of peace.

Sparzo was held on a $51,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned in court on Dec. 10, police said.

Police also noted that Sparzo was previously charged in connection with a robbery reported on November 28th at 97 Elm Street, a McDonald’s location in Enfield, and had been released from Department of Correction custody on Dec. 8, one day before the Subway robbery.
