ENFIELD, CT — Local police say a highway accident involving one of their police vehicles should serve as a reminder to move over when police are parked on the side of the highway.

According to the Enfield Police Department, an EPD officer was assisting Connecticut State Police regarding a car fire at about 11 p.m. Tuesday.

"While officers and troopers were out of their cruisers, a vehicle traveling south struck the rear of both cruisers on scene," wrote the EPD.

Enfield police said the situation is a "friendly reminder" regarding Connecticut's "slow-down-and-move-over" law.

The law states motorists must slow down and move one lane over, if possible, for first responders, construction crews, and tow truck operators, especially when they "have their warning lights activated and are working at a scene or construction site."

According to the Connecticut State Police Wednesday morning, the investigation into the incident is ongoing.

State police said personnel from Troop H in Hartford and the Enfield PD responded to a car fire on I-91 South in the area of Exit 42.

"While on scene, a vehicle collided into a state police cruiser and an Enfield cruiser. Both were out of their cruisers at the time of the collision," said state police.

State police officials said the trooper and officer were not injured, but the operator of the involved vehicle sustained minor injuries.

No further information was available on Wednesday morning.
