Car Crashes Head-On Into Tree, Driver Seriously Injured In Essex: PD

Life Star helicopter flew the victim to an area hospital.

ESSEX, CT — A Rhode Island man was seriously injured when his vehicle crashed head-on into a tree on Route 9, state police said.

At 5:41 p.m. Saturday, a 2013 Honda Civic was traveling northbound on Route 9 in the town of Essex.

The Rhode Island resident's car "drifted off the left side of the two lane limited access highway, entered the dirt shoulder, and collided head-on into a standing tree in the median causing disabling damage to vehicle 1," state police said in a news release.

The driver sustained serious injuries as a result of the impact and was flown by Life Star helicopter to Yale New Haven Hospital. This investigation remains active.
