Covid-19 Test Update In Essex

Update on Covid-19 at-home test kits.

(Scott Anderson/Patch)

ESSEX, CT — From the Town of Essex:

"The Town of Essex Emergency Management Director received COVID-19 test kits on Saturday, Jan. 1, 2022, from the State of Connecticut. The municipality was tasked by the Governor with distributing the kits as quickly as possible to residents in the community. Essex was given a very, very limited number of COVID-19 test kits and not nearly enough to meet the needs of all our residents. Essex limited distribution to 1 kit per household to maximize the number of families having access to an “at-home” test kit and implemented a sign-up system through Community Connect to 1) prepare for the long line of cars, 2) limit the number of people turned away when the supply was depleted, and 3) prevent non-residents from receiving a test kit.

On Jan. 3, 2022, 500 COVID-19 test kits were distributed in 2 hours from the Essex Firehouse. I sincerely thank the Essex Fire Dept, Essex Police Dept, Essex Ambulance Association, Essex Park & Recreation Dept, Essex Fire Marshal, Essex Town Hall Staff, Town Selectmen, and the many volunteers who worked over the holiday weekend and outside in the cold temperatures on Monday to make this distribution event possible.
