Here are the top four stories in Essex-Chester-Deep River today:

  1. Reduce, reuse and recycle! Do you sometimes have questions about what do I do with? In an effort to reduce waste, in a recent Facebook post, on the Town of Essex page, residents are encouraged to first see if their items are fixable or list them on a free site, or put them out for free on their lawns. Try it! (Town of Essex – Government via Facebook)
  2. Looking to add to your family and give back to the world at the same time? Maybe it's time to adopt a pet! Many shelter animals are still looking for their forever home and facilities are still working to fulfill adoptions and place pets with families. Millions of companion animals are surrendered or taken in each year by rescue organizations nationwide, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. However, only around half of all shelter pets are adopted each year, according to ASPCA data. Looking to adopt a lovable new four-legged companion? A great place to start your search is at Forgotten Felines Inc, where Francesca the cat is waiting patiently, or another local adoption agency. If you aren't sure if you have time to take care of a pet year round, many shelters also offer opportunities to foster pets until they are placed in permanent homes. (Essex-Chester-Deep River Patch)
  3. Bringing people together with dance! The Dance Corner in Killingworth will be presenting the 5th annual Dancing From the Heart, a concert to benefit Child Life at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 22, at the Clinton Town Hall Auditorium, 54 East Main St. According to the press release about the event, "the show will feature performances from Connecticut dance companies including, Ballet Hartford, River Valley Dance Project and Moxie Dance. Students from The Dance Corner will also perform. Tickets to the Dancing From the Heart show are $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors. Tickets can be purchased in advance at The Dance Corner, 206 Route 80, Killingworth or at the door. The program should run around one hour." Hope to see you there! (Press Release Desk)
  4. Kudos to Bradley International Airport which was reportedly recognized with Condé Nast Traveler’s 2022 Readers’ Choice Award as the No. 2 Best Airport in the U.S. According to the press release, "more than 240,000 Condé Nast Traveler readers submitted responses rating their travel experiences across the globe to provide a full snapshot of the top places they enjoyed this year and can’t wait to return to next. The Readers’ Choice Awards are the longest-running and most prestigious recognition of excellence in the travel industry and the full list of winners can be found here. This year, Bradley International Airport is recognized as a top-ten airport for the sixth consecutive year, with its best ranking to date." (Press Release Desk)
