  1. There will be a Planning & Zoning Commission Ad-hoc Committee on the Plan of Conservation & Development Special Meeting held today at 6 p.m. Deep River Town Hall. According to a press release from the Cappella Cantorum Chorus, "the Cappella Cantorum Masterworks Chorus's registration for our spring concert is Monday, January 9 at 7 p.m. with our first rehearsal to follow. Registration and most rehearsals are held on Monday evenings at John Winthrop Middle School, 1 Winthrop Rd, Deep River, CT, 06417. Registration fee is $50/semester (music is extra) and the Spring Concert is on Sunday, April 23. We welcome new members and look forward to singing together.   3. Valley Regional High School senior Madeline Rice helped to lead the defense of her field hockey team on and off the field as captain this year. According to Zip06.com, "Madeline helped the Warriors go 8-7-3 overall in making the Shoreline Conference and Class S State tournaments after Valley posted eight total shutouts this season. “Being captain was hard at first. We had 11 seniors leave from last year, so we had to rebuild, and I played an essential role in that,” Madeline says. “Part of my role was to help mend the pieces to put the team together and show we could perform well as a team. As captain, your teammates look up to you as a role model. I strived to have my teammates’ trust this year, because without that trust and bond, you don’t have a team.” (Zip06.com)

By applying a racial equity lens to book readings and discussion, we will pay disciplined attention to race and ethnicity, while analyzing problems, seeking solutions, and defining successes. We are excited to listen, learn and do the hard work that is required to address the power imbalances that exist as part of systemic racism. Meetings will be held once a month on the fourth Wednesday beginning at 6:30 pm for 1 hour or longer depending upon the discussion and will rotate among the libraries and other town buildings of Deep River, Essex and Chester.
