1. Join in the fun in Deep River and participate in the third annual Deep River Scarecrow Contest, which will be ongoing from October 1 through October 29. All businesses, schools, families, individuals and community groups are invited to participate. Registration is required. For more information www.deepriverct.us. Get your scarecrows in! According to a Essex Land Trust Facebook post, "Essex Land Trust board members Paul Greenberg, Bob Nussbaum and Jim Denham installed a new Osprey Platform on Thatchbed Island to replace the one that collapsed late this summer.
