  1. Valley Regional High School seniors Emily Mezick and Alex Liggett have formed the All PUMPed Up team to raise funds for Type 1 diabetes. This was prompted by the fact that there are many in the tri-town community who have Type 1 diabetes or loved ones with the condition. The team will be participating in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation One Walk on Sunday, October 2nd at Six Flags New England. According to John OHare (who sent the press release to Patch), "anyone who joins the team and raises $75 or more by Saturday, October 1 will receive one free ticket to Six Flags at check-in on walk day! Tickets are valid on that day beginning at 12 p.m. through October 30. To contribute or join the team, visit www2.jdrf.org/goto/type1. For additional questions, contact Emily Mezick at emezick@reg4.k12.ct.us or Alex Liggett at aliggett@reg4.k12.ct.us." Hope to see you all at the walk!
  2. Looking for a new home, and want to get a better understanding of what's available near you? Need some help in your search? Not to worry! To help simplify your search, we here at Patch have compiled the latest batch of new listings nearby. Here are the five newest homes to hit the housing market in and around the Essex-Chester-Deep River area — such as a home in the Essex area with 4 beds and 3 baths for $675,000, and another in the Essex area with 4 beds and 4 baths for $2.2 million. 3. Do you have any old sneakers lying around that you no longer wear? Stop! Don’t throw them away! Essex Elementary School (EES) PTO will collect them and have them reused or recycled through the Got Sneakers! Program. The EES PTO receives a donation depending on the condition of the sneakers. Conveniently drop sneakers at Mail Mart, Essex Hardware, Valley Shore YMCA or Tri-town youth services. (Tri-Town Youth Services Bureau via Facebook)
