Here are the top three stories today in Essex-Chester-Deep River:

It's Rail Safety Week 2022 and to help raise greater safety awareness to reduce collisions between trains and motor vehicles or pedestrians and save lives the Connecticut Department of Transportation is holding various activities throughout the state this week. The aim is to reduce crossing crashes and pedestrian/railroad trespass incidents. On Thursday, September 22, to showcase track and railroad safety in a controlled and safe environment, CTDOT and Operation Lifesaver will have a special demonstration of the Essex Steam Engine, 1 Railroad Ave, Essex, CT 06426, from 6:30 – 9:30 a.m.(ct.gov/DOT/CTDOT)
  2. Though the economy has yet to fully recover from the devastation caused by the pandemic, we've got you covered including in the Essex-Chester-Deep River area and across greater Connecticut.   3. According to a Zip06 article, "the Valley Regional-Old Lyme (VR-OL) football team hosted divisional opponent Coginchaug/Hale-Ray/East Hampton for its second game of the season on Sept. 16. The Warriors claimed a 61-12 victory against the Blue Devils at Blythe Field to improve to 2-0 overall with a record of 2-0 in the Pequot Conference Sassacus Division.
    VR-OL held a 21-12 lead over the Blue Devils after the first quarter. The Warriors then outscored the Blue Devils by a 27-0 margin during the second quarter to take a 48-12 lead into the break. VR-OL scored all 13 points in the second half and went on to win the contest by 49." (Zip06.com)
