  1. Do you like art? You're in luck because this weekend, The annual River Valley Art Tour will wend its way through Chester, Essex and Deep River taking visitors to 24 studios, galleries and homes to see works created by 48 artists. From mixed medium abstracts to more traditional seascapes, to art pottery and sculpture. Three River Valley Artist shows are also on the tour: an exhibit of paintings of Chester, Essex and Deep River at The Space, 1 Main Street, Chester; another of farm animals and farm scenes at Ashlawn Outpost, 362 Elm St, Deep River and a third of small paintings of birds at Essex Coffee and Tea, 51 Main Street, Essex. There will be cake and champagne at The Space on Friday, Oct. 7 from 5 to 8 p.m to celebrate our fifth anniversary and kick-off the tour; SOMA, 500 Main Street, Deep River will serve muffins and mimosas Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and there will be snacks and drinks at all sites. In addition, there will be free drawings for original art at Rosemary Cotnoir’s at the southern end of the tour; at Claudia Van Nes’ at the most northern end and at Jeni Gray Roberts in the middle.   2. Hypnotist Jim Spinnato will be visiting Valley Regional High School on Friday, October 28 at 7 p.m. The show will take place in the VRHS auditorium. Tickets are $10 each. Proceeds will go to Safe Grad. Tickets are being sold at the Wheat Market in Chester, Celebrations in Deep River, Olive Oyl's in Essex and at the VRHS office. Tickets sell out quickly.   3. It’s time for the winter gear drive at the Essex Elementary School. According to a Facebook post on the EES page, "Every Thursday & Friday in October During school drop off (8:10-8:25 am) and pick up (2:45-3:15 pm) winter gear will be collected. Don’t throw away your old winter clothes, donate them instead! They take all gently used coats, snow pants, hats, mittens and gloves to help meet the needs of EES students. Donate if you can!
