  1. In an effort to help increase Connecticut's manufacturing workforce, scholarships will be given to advanced manufacturing students at nine community colleges across the state. According to a press release, "The Connecticut community colleges and technology company Xometry were joined by Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology and Connecticut’s Chief Manufacturing Officer Paul Lavoie at Asnuntuck Community College on Oct. 4 to announce 19 full-tuition scholarships. To be eligible for the scholarship, those interested must apply at one of the nine community colleges, choose a major in advanced manufacturing technology and contact their college’s manufacturing director for a scholarship form. The community college application for spring or summer 2023 semesters is available at www.ct.edu/admission.The 19 Connecticut student scholarships are among 250 that have been established by Xometry at community colleges in the key manufacturing states of Maryland, Kentucky, Wisconsin, South Carolina and New York."   3. A Candidate Forum For State Representative and State Senator Candidates will be held on Tuesday, November 1 at 6:30, at Valley Regional High School. The Essex and Brainerd libraries will jointly sponsor the forum for senate and house candidates. According to an Essex Library Facebook post, "moderators will be Essex Library Interim Director Ann Thompson and Brainerd Library Director Tom Piezzo. Participating candidates are District 36 Incumbent Rep. Christine Palm (D) and Chris Turkington (R) and District 33 Incumbent Senator Norm Needleman (D) and Brandon Goff (R). Questions for the candidates can be sent by US Mail, dropped off at either the Essex Library (33 West Ave, Essex, CT, 06426) or Brainerd Library (920 Saybrook Road, Haddam, CT 06438) or emailed to Ann Thompson athompson@essexlib.org or Tom Piezzo tpiezzo@brainerdlibrary.org. Please submit questions for state rep and senator candidates separately. To be considered for inclusion, questions must be relevant to state issues, particularly at the district level, and not constructed in a way as to favor a particular candidate.
