Supermarket Opens Essex Location At Long-Vacant Site

A grocery store has opened a location at the former Colonial Market space in Essex.

ESSEX, CT — DG Market, formerly affiliated with Dollar General, has moved into the former Colonial Market space in the Bokum Plaza at 125 Westbrook Road.

The plaza was sold in December for $1.875 million. The space has been empty since the pandemic when Colonial Market left, according to Hearst Connecticut.

There are currently about 2,000 DG Markets nationwide, with most of those located in the South and West. The company plans to expand in the Northeast in the next few years.
