Here are the top three stories in Essex-Chester-Deep River today:

  1. It was a win for the Warriors Sunday afternoon! According to CT Insider, "No. 6 Valley Regional/Old Lyme overpowered No. 7 Gilbert/Northwestern/Housatonic 26-14 in a Class SS semifinal football game at Valley Regional High School Sunday afternoon. Senior Nick Cox scored a pair of touchdowns in the first half and Di'Angelo Jean-Pierre's 57-yard touchdown run in the third quarter put Valley Regional ahead for good. The Warriors advance to meet No. 5-seeded Barlow Saturday for the Class SS football state championship at either Rentschler Field or Central Connecticut at a time to be announced." (CT Insider)
  2. State Representative Christine Palm wrote in a recent email, "We are blessed with farms that help define our towns' character and boost our local economy. But whether those tending the land are fourth-generation landowners or young farmers just starting out, it's always helpful to have financial support. Therefore, I'm pleased that the Connecticut Department of Agriculture (DOAG) administers many grant programs that are beneficial to the farmers and farmland in our state and our towns. I wanted to share two of these programs with you: the Farmland Restoration Grant and the Climate Smart Agriculture and Forestry Grant. These grants are available to all those who qualify, please follow the links (Farmland) and (Climate-Smart-Agriculture) for more information. If you are applying, please reach out to my office as I will put together a letter of support for your application. To request a letter of support or if you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact me." (State Representative Christine Palm)
  3. According to Patch Staffer, Rich Kirby, "There is no more Christmas-y state than Connecticut, and trying to follow every holiday event in your own town — let alone the rest of the state — can be harder than your aunt's fruitcake. Fortunately, the Connecticut Tourism Office keeps track of every shark-diving Santa and rappelling reindeer so that we don't have to. What's more, they've put together a list of recommendations for the discerning Yule-o-phile, below. Whether all the experiences measure up to Stonington's one-of-a-kind lobster trap tree (above) will be a matter of personal taste, but one thing is certain: we've got your ring-a-ling-a-ling, ding-dong-ding, right here: Check out this list of holiday events and light displays.
