- Forecasters say CT may see 60 mph wind gusts, flooding and power outage concerns and even a flash freeze. According to an article written by Patch staff member Brian McCready, "The National Weather Service has already issued a hazardous weather outlook for a major storm that will produce heavy rain, flooding concerns and potentially 60 mph wind gusts. No snow, as of right now, is forecast for Connecticut, as high temperatures will approach 60 degrees on Friday, but by Friday night temperatures will nosedive to the teens. A flash freeze is of concern for Saturday morning, forecasters say. The storm really gets going on Thursday night and Friday morning, before the precipitation tapers off on Friday afternoon. Up to three inches of rain is possible. For the holiday weekend, high temperatures will only be in the 20s, what a massive change from the 60 degree mark on Friday."' Stay up to date on weather changes and prepare for the weekend! (Patch)
- According to National Review.com, "Starting next July, Connecticut will become one of the first states in America to mandate climate change studies across its public schools as part of its science curriculum. The new law passed earlier this year comes as part of the state’s attempts to address concerns over the short duration – and in some cases, absence – of climate change studies in classrooms. Much of this change to the curriculum is due to the efforts of Connecticut State Representative Christine Palm. She explains: “The conservative turn in our country … often starts at a very hyper-local level of local town boards of education. There is this push towards anti-intellectualism, anti-science … anti-reason and I didn’t want local boards of education to have the power to overturn the curriculum and say, ‘climate change is too political."' - A recent email from John Winthrop Middle School stated, "We are pleased to announce a collaboration with Tri-Town Youth Service Bureau (TTYSB) at John Winthrop starting in the new year. In January, Tri- Town will have an office in the middle school and will be able to provide clinical support to JW students on site. This collaboration will allow for third party clinical services to be provided during school hours. As the collaboration gets underway, we will monitor and adjust accordingly to best meet the community and school needs. Access to the Tri-Town clinicians will happen through a referral process, and will only be provided with parent consent. (John Winthrop Middle School)
