Joyce Maynard first came to prominence in 1972, when her essay, “An Eighteen-Year-Old Looks Back on Life,” was published by the New York Times. Since then she has written over 18 books, including the NYT-bestseller Labor Day, which was made into a feature film, and the memoir At Home in the World, which includes details of her time spent with reclusive author J.D. Salinger. Joyce has been a reporter and columnist for the New York Times, a syndicated newspaper columnist, and a regular contributor to NPR and to national publications including Vogue, the New York Times Magazine, and more. She is also the founder of “Write by the Lake,” a week-long workshop on crafting a memoir that is held every year since 2001 in Lake Atitlan, Guatemala.

“Joyce first visited FPL in 2021 when she brought her latest book at that time, Count the Ways, and we are excited to have her back,” said Claudia Silk, Adult Reference Librarian. “It is also an honor to be the location of her first live book discussion of The Bird Hotel!”
