LTE: Little Things are not Little Things
Why I support Tony Hwang for Fairfield's First Selectman
To the Editor:
I would like to believe that by now Senator Tony Hwang’s dedication to his constituents would be all but common knowledge, but periodically it’s good remind ourselves of the little acts of kindness he does.
Six years ago, when my wife had to be hospitalized, Tony Hwang was one of her very first visitors. When my nephew’s wife was struggling with cancer he was there to help. When my neighbor was told by the town that a compromised tree was going to be her problem to resolve (after being told for decades by the town that she could not touch the tree in question), Senator Hwang found a way through the bureaucracy.

Last year when a close friend, and dedicated member to law enforcement lost his fight with the cancer, the cancer which he had contracted in the lower Manhattan aftermath of 9/11, Tony presented his wife (very privately) with a Letter of Recognition of her husband’s service from the General Assembly.
Senator Hwang’s small acts of kindness are by no means unique; they are in fact routine. I suspect most of his constituents at least know of someone who the Senator has helped in some small way. There are some who might say that these are only little things, and of course that’s true, but I think that they would be missing the point. When it comes to showing people that you actually care about them, little things are not little things.
