FAIRFIELD, CT — Construction is slated to begin in late January or February 2026 on the damaged Lower Wharf Fishing Pier and bulkhead in Southport Harbor, according to Christopher Smith, Chair of the Fairfield Harbor Management Committee.
Smith discussed the project in a recent community update by First Selectperson Christine Vitale, in which he said all approvals have been obtained by the Army Corps of Engineers, the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, and town agencies.
Last year, the state Bonding Commission approved just over $1 million for the project. An exact date for when construction will begin has not yet been finalized.
