UU Westport: Practicing Resistance: Seeing, Hearing, and Acting for Justice – Rev. Dr. KC Jones

UU Westport: Practicing Resistance: Seeing, Hearing, and Acting for Justice – Rev. Dr. KC Jones

Please join us at UU Westport this Sunday where we will be hearing from our guest preacher, the Rev. Dr. KC Jones, as she leads our service. Childcare and nursery care are available at 10 AM. Dress code is as you feel comfortable.

“Exodus 3:7–8 (NRSV) “Then the Lord said, ‘I have observed the misery of my people who are in Egypt; I have heard their cry… Indeed, I know their sufferings, and I have come down to deliver them.’””

In a world that trains us to scroll past suffering, divine attention becomes an act of resistance. To observe misery is to refuse denial. It is to tell the truth about what is happening, even when that truth is uncomfortable or inconvenient.

Rev. Dr. KC Jones is the Soul Care Minister at MLK Jr. Community Presbyterian Church in Springfield, Massachusetts. Soul care lies at the heart of Dr. KC’s ministry mission. For her, soul care is more than self-care; it is the intentional tending to one’s inner being, nurturing the spirit, and creating space for healing, restoration, and growth while honoring the divine within and rediscovering a sense of wholeness and peace amidst life’s chaos.

All are always welcome to our Unitarian Universalist services at UU Westport, offered each Sunday at 10 AM, both in person and live-streamed online. Services usually include a time of reflection/prayer/meditation; wonderful music; readings; and a homily or sermon to lend insight into our world and how we interact with it and with each other. The Rev. Carlton E. Smith presides over our time together that includes participation from multiple congregants, guests, and friends. Music Director Micah Krajca leads our choirs. Separate children's programming and nursery care is available during the service, 10-11:15AM. Dress code is as you feel comfortable.

As always, our e-newsletter SOUNDINGS has all the information one needs to find out what's going on in our congregation. Contact the office at 203.227.7205 x 10 if you have specific questions.

UU Westport is a diverse and welcoming religious community, free of creed and dogma, and open to people of all backgrounds and beliefs. We welcome all who are in search of a non-judgmental, loving, safe community to come together to explore what it means to be human and alive in today's world, and how we can best serve one another and those around us, near and far.

Our services take place in UU Westport's iconic sanctuary building, a glorious architectural masterpiece of mid-century modernist Victor Lundy (1923-2024). The building has just undergone a major renovation and is spectacular with its soaring rooflines, sparkling glass walls, set in the woods with the beauty of nature all around it.
