Decision Reached On Fairfield Suspect In Fake SantaCon Social Media Promotion Case: Report

The suspect, a Fairfield University student, was arrested before the Dec. 6 event.

FAIRFIELD, CT — Charges have been dropped against the Fairfield University student who was accused of posting a fake promotion on social media for the Dec. 6 SantaCon event, CT Insider reported.

The 19-year-old Massapequa, New York resident had been arrested on charges of criminal attempt to commit disorderly conduct, and third-degree criminal attempt to commit criminal trespass.

Prosecutors reportedly said the suspect cooperated with police and took down the post, and no uninvited people showed up.

This year's SantaCon in Fairfield was a private, ticketed event exclusively for Fairfield University students and their registered guests. In past years, the event devolved into a mess with arrests, extreme intoxication, litter and other problems.

Town and school officials, seeking to avoid those troubles, set up the exclusive event, and it was deemed a success.
