FAIRFIELD, CT — Fairfield's latest Charter Revision Commission, which has been meeting since October 2024, has finished its review of the Town Charter and submitted its draft report, officials announced Friday.

In addition to the draft report, the commission also submitted four other documents to the Town Clerk’s Office, all of which can be viewed under "Important Documents" on the CRC homepage.

Beginning Monday, June 2, the Board of Selectmen will hold public hearings on the draft report to gather feedback from residents. The town attempted to revise the Charter in 2022, but the measure did not garner enough votes.

First Selectman Bill Gerber relaunched the effort in 2024, and voters will decide its fate in the fall.

"The Charter is Fairfield’s constitution and provides direction for how our government conducts Town operations," Gerber said in a statement to Patch. "I hope every resident takes the time to read the draft revisions and participates in the scheduled public hearings. The final revised Charter will then be voted on this November."

Proposed changes to the Town Charter will appear as questions on the Nov. 4 election ballot.

Gerber is encouraging residents to provide input on recommended Charter changes either by attending meetings in person, via Zoom, by phone, and/or emailing the selectmen at https://fairfieldct.org/contactbos.

Agendas can be accessed here, which will provide Zoom, phone and email instructions for those wishing to provide public comment but cannot attend the meetings/hearings in person.
