Fairfield Delegation Hosts PURA Workshop for Fairfield Residents

Presentations will focus on simple ways to reduce energy consumption.

FAIRFIELD, CT – State Representatives Laura Devlin (R-134), Brenda Kupchick (R-132) and Cristin McCarthy Vahey (D-133), along State Senator Tony Hwang (R-28) hosted a workshop in conjunction with PURA at the Fairfield History Museum on Thursday, September 15th, 2016.

The Fairfield Delegation was joined by rate specialists from the Connecticut’s Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) for an event called “Learn How to Lower Your Electric Bill”. Attendees were encouraged to bring their electric bills as the specialists walked them through various cost-reduction methods.

“I think the takeaway from this event was that Connecticut residents have the ability to control their energy costs right at home by making small changes in their daily routines right now that can equate to substantial savings over the long-term,” said Rep. Devlin. “It all boils down to using what you need.”

“This was an overall great idea since many of our senior residents are trying to live within their means at a time when basic living costs are rising at an unprecedented rate,” added Rep. Kupchick. “I thank PURA for their assistance with this event and encourage all who attended to implement some of these practices in their own homes.”

“Electric bills are confusing and loaded with complex calculations and fees,” Sen. Hwang said. “This informational session aimed at answering questions and cost concerns to help people lower or better manage unavoidable energy costs. We can always do more to reduce our carbon footprint and save money.”

Connecticut residents who receive their electricity through United Illuminating (UI) may be faced with the first of multiple price increases in the coming months as UI has recently submitted a request to PURA to systematically increase their rates through 2019. Republican legislatives leaders are strongly opposed to this proposal and have attended PURA hearings on the matter to deliver their testimony.
