Fairfield Harvest Market Canceled Due To Coronavirus Concerns

"Given the size of this event, it would be very difficult to maintain proper safety protocols," the Fairfield chamber president said.

FAIRFIELD, CT — The Fairfield Chamber of Commerce will not host its annual Harvest Market this year, the organization announced in a news release. The event was originally scheduled for Oct. 17 on Old Town Hall Green.

“It was a very hard decision to cancel this much-anticipated popular community event, but given the circumstances of the COVID pandemic, we wanted to be absolutely mindful of ‘safety first’,” chamber President Beverly Balaz said in the news release.

Historically, the market has drawn hundreds of people, with attendees visiting more than 80 vendors, participating in the Halloween Dog Parade or dining at local food trucks.

“Given the size of this event, it would be very difficult to maintain proper safety protocols and adhere to state and town event requirements and social distancing guidelines,” Balaz said in the news release.

The chamber has scheduled a date of Oct. 16 for the Harvest Market in 2021, assuming no health or safety issues prevent it.
