Fairfield Warde High School Dance Team Wins State Dance Championship
The Mustangs took top the spot for large hip hop at the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference.

Fairfield Warde Dance Team won first place in the large hip hop division and were crowned State Champions at Connecticut’s State Dance Championships in Hamden on Saturday, February 25. The team performed “Ready for the War,” beating out eight other skilled high school dance teams in the large hip hop division.

The 2023 State Dance Championships took place at Hamden High School and included 29 teams from across the state. With this win, Fairfield Warde Dance Team, led by Coach Jennifer Kealey, earned a chance to compete in New England Regionals in Bellingham, MA, on March 11.
This most recent win is a standout achievement in a successful competition season for Fairfield Warde, which includes 1st place jazz, 2nd place hip hop, and Special Judges Award at Dancin’ in the Woods competition, 1st place hip hop and Overall Grand Champions at the Quinnipiac Dance Challenge, and a bid to compete at the UDA Nationals in Orlando, where they danced in the fiercely competitive medium varsity group for jazz and hip hop against teams from all over the country.

In addition, senior Ishita Kumar was chosen for this year’s All State, where winners were selected based on a professionally choreographed routine, and All State Academic, which considers the students’ academic and extracurricular activities.
The team has received several awards over its 17 years, including UDA National Finalist, eight-time large hip hop CT State Champions, two-time New England Champs, and six-time New England Regional Runner Up.
