New Hair Salon Opens On Post Road In Fairfield

Seeking a "modern" look? This salon has you covered.

FAIRFIELD, CT — Modern Salon, a new hair and beauty shop in downtown Fairfield, recently opened at 1275 Post Road and held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday.

Owned by Westchester resident Melissa Schiavone, the salon offers a wide-range of hair cutting and coloring services, including a "Chemo Cut," a complimentary, free haircut for anyone undergoing chemotherapy.

Schiavone, a master cutter and colorist, has more than 28 years of experience, and told Patch that the idea to open a salon in Fairfield grew after she and her husband began looking to buy a home in Fairfield.

"We're still looking for a home in town, but we found the salon first," Schiavone said. "We love it here."

Schiavone took over the space from a different salon that was at the address, and remodeled it.

"The only things I kept were the stations, the chairs and the sinks," she said. "Everything else is new."

In addition to hairstyling, Modern Salon, which features Balmain products, has also partnered with Kate Avenali, a registered nurse and owner of Modern Beauty Wellness & Aesthetics in Milford, to offer Botox, "brotox" and other cosmetic treatments.

Friday's ribbon-cutting was attended by First Selectman Bill Gerber, Fairfield Community Economic Development Director Mark Barnhart, and Fairfield Chamber of Commerce President Beverly Balaz.

"Thank you for choosing Fairfield," Gerber said. "I love your story, you came here for a house, and ended up opening a business. That's a big commitment, and we appreciate it."
