No Charges For Driver In Crash That Injured Fairfield School Student

An elementary school student suffered minor injuries when the child was struck by a vehicle Wednesday morning.

FAIRFIELD, CT — The driver of a vehicle that struck and injured an elementary school student in Fairfield Wednesday morning will not be charged by police, Patch has learned.

According to Fairfield police, the student suffered minor injuries in the crash, and was treated at an area hospital. Information about the child was not disclosed.

"It was determined that the operator of the vehicle that struck the child did not commit any violations," Fairfield Police Sgt. Michael Stahl told Patch. Additionally, police did not disclose information about the driver or vehicle.

The crash occurred at about 8:45 a.m. near the intersection of Nichols Avenue and First Street, and was witnessed by several students on a school bus.

At the time, the child was crossing the street to reach a bus stop. Stahl added that the bus stop has come under scrutiny by police.

"The location of the bus stop was a concern of ours, and those concerns were communicated with personnel responsible for transportation at the public schools," Stahl said.

"This incident serves as a crucial reminder to both motorists and pedestrians about the importance of road safety," Stahl said, and that the department urges "all drivers to remain vigilant and cautious, especially in school zones and residential areas."

Additionally, all pedestrians should always use crosswalks and be mindful of traffic signals at all times.

"Parents, please take a moment to talk with your children about the importance of crossing streets safely," Stahl said. "Ensure they know to wait for a signal to cross and to look both ways before stepping into the street. Safety is a shared responsibility, and together we can help prevent future incidents."
