Rob Blanchard Earns More Endorsements In State Senate Campaign
Several labor unions have come out in support of Blanchard, who is running for the state's 28th Senate District seat.

FAIRFIELD, CT — Rob Blanchard, Democratic candidate for Connecticut’s 28th State Senate District, continued to build his momentum leading up to Election Day, earning endorsements from key constituencies underscoring his commitment to strengthening investments in public education and Connecticut’s healthcare workforce development, and implementing policies to attract top-tier talent.
Blanchard earned the backing of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) Connecticut, CSEA SEIU Local 2001, the Connecticut Education Association (CEA), AFSCME Council 4 and the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 478. Blanchard was also named a 2024 Mental Health Now candidate, highlighting his commitment to advancing support for mental health resources.

“The time is now for a new generation of leadership. I pledge to be a leader who will work to advance policies that strengthen public education, our healthcare workforce and create employment pathways through our vocational programs. I will also collaborate with key organizations and stakeholders to attract, train and retain workers in key sectors such as engineering, STEM, social work, education, healthcare and public service,” said Blanchard. “I am proud to have earned the endorsement of these organizations. With so much at stake this election, I’ll bring the fresh perspective needed to implement policies that uplift our communities and increase opportunities for middle class families in the 28th State Senate District.”
Together, these organizations represent thousands of Connecticut residents who live and work across the state. AFT Connecticut represents more than 30,000 women and men working in the areas of PreK-12 and higher education, healthcare, and municipal and state government. CSEA SEIU Local 2001 represents more than 22,000 active and retired public service employees across a range of sectors including education, health and welfare, social services, public safety, criminal justice, transportation, environmental health, corrections, and services for the disabled. CEA is the state’s largest association of public school teachers. AFSCME Council 4 represents members who work in health care, corrections and law enforcement, welfare and social services, public works, K-12 education and higher education and more. International Union of Operating Engineers Local 478 represents 4,367 heavy equipment operators, mechanics, and support personnel in Connecticut.

AFT Connecticut, CSEA SEIU Local 2001, CEA, AFSCME Council 4 and International Union of Operating Engineers Local 478 join a growing list of organizations and supporters who have backed Blanchard to be the next state senator for the 28th District. Supporters include the Uniformed Professional Fire Fighters Association of Connecticut, the Connecticut AFL-CIO, the Connecticut State Building Trades Council, the College Democrats of Connecticut, U.S. Congressman Jim Himes, Fairfield First Selectman Bill Gerber, Fairfield Selectman Christine Vitale, Easton First Selectman Dave Bindelglass, Easton Selectman Nick D’Addario, Newtown Selectman Michelle Embree Ku, Newtown Selectman Dan Cruson, and former Bethel First Selectman Matt Knickerbocker.

Rob Blanchard, a member of Fairfield’s RTM, is a candidate for Connecticut’s 28th State Senate District. Bringing a unique background of public and private sector experience, Rob is running to address the high-cost of living in Connecticut by ensuring taxes remain stable and predictable for seniors and fighting for increased municipal aid, so local leaders aren’t faced with raising property taxes or reducing education funding.
