FAIRFIELD, CT — A Bridgeport man berated a Fairfield police officer during a traffic stop last month, and then drove off after the officer discovered that the man had active warrants for his arrest, Patch has learned.

The suspect, Felix Berrios, was arrested last week on a warrant on charges of:

  • Interfering with an officer
  • Engaging police in a pursuit
  • Misuse of marker plates
  • Failure to obey a stop sign

The incident occurred on April 10, when a Fairfield police officer "observed a vehicle with no front plate, and a license plate cover obscuring the rear plate," Sgt. Jenna Wellington told Patch.

"The officer was able to get close and check the registration, which he discovered did not belong on the car," Wellington said. "Furthermore, the registered owner of the license plate, Felix Berrios, had two active warrants for his arrest. The officer initiated a traffic stop, at which point the operator rolled down his window and began to berate the officer. The officer observed that the driver was Berrios, who then drove off after the officer got out of his patrol car."

Berrios was released after posting bond on bail of $25,000, and is scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on May 15.
