Big Changes For Unique Pet Store In Farmington/West Hartford

In addition to opening a new store in West Hartford, the pet retailer's flagship Farmington store is relocating to a new site in town.

FARMINGTON/WEST HARTFORD, CT — Changes are afoot at one of the more unique pet supply stores around, Green Tails Market, which recently opened a new store in West Hartford and is currently relocating its flagship Farmington location.

Green Tails is planning a grand opening celebration at its new store that opened earlier this month in West Hartford, at 16 LaSalle Road.

Meanwhile, the original Green Tails operation in Farmington, currently located at 1085 Farmington Ave., is moving to a new location on Oct. 2 at nearby 1035 Farmington Ave.

It will reopen at the new location on Monday, Oct. 2, in Farmington.

As for West Hartford's new store, owner Ann Fryer said it has a "soft opening" Sept. 13, with a grand opening expected sometime in October, once the move of the Farmington operation is done.

What makes Green Tail unique is that the "green" in the store's name is not in reference to a color. It's in reference to the type of food and items sold at the store.

"We are an eco-friendly, natural pet supply and will be carrying similar products in each store. Our focus is sustainable, natural food and pet supplies," wrote Fryer to Patch.

In addition to offering all-natural food and green products in the store, Green Tail actually delivers if you happen to live nearby as long as the order is $50 or more.

The towns/communities Green Tail delivers to are Farmington, Avon, Canton, Bristol, Plainville, Unionville, West Hartford, Hartford, Newington, New Britain and Simsbury.

Green Tail associates also act as consultants to pet parents and can help them decide what food is best for the dog and/or cat.

And everything about Green Tails is about serving pets and pet parents ... with the environment in mind.

"Because we are committed to sustainability we often deliver using our zero emissions ebike and work with One Tree Planted to plant a tree for every 100 pounds of kibble (dry food) we sell," wrote Fryer.

One Tree Planted is a national nonprofit out of Shelburne, Vt., dedicated to planting trees as part of an ongoing environmental sustainability initiative.

Even the features inside the store all have an environmental slant.

"We use reclaimed wood and repurposed fixtures in both of our locations and prioritize plastic-free products," wrote Fryer.
