CT Golf Legend Suzy Whaley Elected To PGA Of America Hall Of Fame

FRISCO, TX — Former Farmington resident Suzy Whaley, who made history in 2018 by becoming the first woman to be elected president of the Professional Golfers Association (PGA) of America, has added another high-level accolade to her impressive resume, as one of six inductees into the PGA of America Hall of Fame Class of 2023.

Whaley, one of the first female club pros in Connecticut, made headlines in 2002 by winning the Connecticut Section PGA championship at Ellington Ridge Country Club. That victory came with an automatic berth into the 2003 Greater Hartford Open, a PGA Tour stop since 1952, and Whaley became the first woman to qualify for a PGA Tour event since the legendary Babe Didrikson Zaharias played in the Tucson Open in 1945.

In 2014, she was elected secretary of the PGA, becoming the first female officer since the organization's founding in 1916. She became vice president in 2016 and ascended to the presidency two years later.

Whaley, now a resident of south Florida, was inducted into the Connecticut Golf Hall of Fame in 2021. A year later, she was elected to the Connecticut Women’s Hall of Fame, and received the prestigious Gold Key Award from the Connecticut Sports Media Alliance.

The PGA Hall of Fame Class of 2023 also includes Robert Dolan, Don Wegrzyn, Herb Wimberly, LPGA legend Kathy Whitworth and CBS Sports broadcaster Jim Nantz. They will be inducted at the 107th PGA annual meeting Nov. 8 at the Omni PGA Frisco Resort.
