'Dog Days' Come Early In Farmington

Local dog owners are urged to renew dog licenses by June 30, for the town's 'Top Dog' contest, hopefuls have until June 10.

FARMINGTON, CT — The so-called "dog days of summer" usually is in the latter part of the season, but the "dog days" start early at town halls statewide, with Farmington no different.

June is the state-mandated month when all dog licenses must be renewed, and Farmington officials have urged compliance through the town clerk's office.

For spayed/neutered dogs, the fee is $8, $19 if a dog is not spayed or neutered, with proof of rabies vaccination and spayed/neutered status required.

As part of the dog license push in June, Farmington is hosting its 2025 "Top Dog" contest, where the winning dog gets to have license "No. 1" on their collar for the next year, along with a licensing fee waiver this year.

The drawing will be held on June 19 at 10 a.m.

To participate, send a 4-inch-by-6-inch photo of your dog to the town clerk's office, along with the dog's name, owner's name, address, and a phone number.

Photos must be mailed to the Farmington Town Clerk's Office, 1 Monteith Drive, Farmington, Conn., 06032.

The deadline to mail in a photo is June 10, though folks can drop off their photos in person at the town clerk's office as well.
