2 DUI Women Had Children In Vehicles: Farmington PD

An Avon woman was charged on March 29, while a Torrington woman was charged on March 31. Both will appear in court April 8.

FARMINGTON, CT — Twice in the past week, Farmington police have charged women with driving under the influence of drugs/alcohol with children inside.

On March 29, a 26-year-old Avon woman was pulled over on Farmington Avenue and charged with DUI with a child inside as a passenger.

Then, on March 31, a 38-year-old Torrington woman was charged with those same offenses relative to an incident last November.

Both suspects will appear in court on Tuesday, April 8, according to police.

According to the Farmington Police Department, Joseline Sostre, 26, of Great Meadow Lane, Avon, is facing several charges after police took her into custody March 29 on Farmington Avenue at Town Farm Road.

Farmington police said she was pulled over at about 11:06 p.m. last Friday.

She was later charged with: failure to drive in the proper lane; operating a motor vehicle without a license; illegal operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs; risk of injury to a child; illegal operation of a motor vehicle under suspension; and operating under the influence with a child under age 18 as a passenger at 11:06 p.m.

After her release on $10,000 bond, she will appear in Hartford Superior Court on April 8 for arraignment on these charges, according to online court records.

Online court records show Sostre is also facing several charges from police dating back to 2023.

On April 14, 2023, Sostre was charged with illegal operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs along with several motor vehicle violations, including operating a motor vehicle with a hand-held device.

She has yet to plead in that case and is expected in Hartford Superior Court on those charges on May 1.

Meanwhile, Sostre was also charged with several motor vehicle violations in September 2024, with another appearance in Hartford Superior Court to face those charges slated for May 1 as well.

March 31

Meanwhile, Farmington police said Ashley Inez James, 38, of Migeon Avenue, Torrington, was charged March 31 with similar offenses related to an incident Nov. 8, 2024.

Police said she was charged with unsafe movement of a stopped motor vehicle, reckless driving; illegal operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs, risk of injury to a child, and operating under the influence with a child under 18 as a passenger in a motor vehicle at 5:50 p.m. that evening.

After being released on $20,000 bond, James will appear in Hartford Superior Court on Tuesday, April 8, according to online court records.
