Esty and NASA Astronaut to Talk STEM at Farmington High School

Congresswoman Elizabeth Esty (D-5) and NASA Astronaut Randolph Bresnik are scheduled to visit Farmington High School on Monday.

They plan to talk to talk "about the importance of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education," according to a press release. 

"At the roundtable, Esty and Astronaut Bresnik will be joined by local education leaders, manufacturers, and elected officials to discuss ways to improve STEM education in our schools," according to a press release from Esty's office. "Astronaut Bresnik will highlight his experiences at NASA and how schools can better prepare students to meet NASA’s hiring priorities. Quality STEM education is critical to preparing students for careers in engineering and high-skilled manufacturing."

Bresnik has spent more than 250 hours in space since 2009, when he had his first flight "to the International Space System," according to the press release. He also serves in the U.S. Marine Corps at the rank of colonel.  

Esty is a member of the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology, "where she has made boosting STEM education a top priority," the release states.  

"Last month, Esty introduced the STEM Jobs Act to help enhance teacher professional development programs at the National Science Foundation and the Department of Education to support teachers in the STEM fields," the release said.
