On Wednesday, Dec. 6, CALA honored Middlewoods Activities Director Deborah Grace Astrom with the “Humanitarian” Award at CALA’s annual meeting and awards dinner held at the Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville.

This award is presented annually to one individual whose personal integrity, decency, and contributions to the elderly best exemplify the ideals of CALA and who serves as an inspiration to all.

Astrom has been a member of the Middlewoods of Farmington team for nearly three years and since taking the role of activities director, has re-defined “resident programming”

She was nominated for the award by members of the Middlewoods team who have seen Astrom grow community engagement at Middlewoods.

“The depth of Debbie’s creativity, talent, and leadership ability never ceases to amaze us,” said Ginny Brown, director of community relations at Middlewoods of Farmington.

In addition to Astrom’s Humanitarian award, Middlewoods team member, Patricia Beadle was recently recognized by United Methodist Homes (UMH), the senior living provider organization that manages the community, with the UMH Values in Action award for 2023.

This award is presented each year to employees who reflect the organization’s five core values of Respect, Spirituality, Excellence, Collaboration, and Stewardship in an extraordinary way.

The award was presented at a special employee recognition event held at the Farmington senior living community Nov. 9.

Beadle, a licensed practical nurse, is loved and respected by residents for her creative and compassionate approach.

Alongside Beadle, six other team members from Middlewoods were also recognized for excellence and years of service milestones of five years to 20 years with UMH.

Those recognized for years of service included: Linda Errico (5 years); Tanya Janeczko and Madeleine Janes (10 years); Olga Cano (15 years) and Anne Muzyk (20 years).

Middlewoods of Farmington Executive Director Bianca Turcotte-Reome praised the honorees.

“I am so grateful for the continued dedication of our team that has created such a strong culture of caring in our community and I am so proud to share that with our residents and families,” she said.
