Farmington Defeats Fermi in Tournament Playin Game

By Tim Jensen

Farmington took advantage of a pair of second-inning Fermi errors to plate four unearned runs, paving the way to a 13-5 victory in a Class L baseball playin game Sunday in Enfield.

The Indians, seeded 33rd, will face top-seeded Cheney Tech Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. in Manchester.

Farmington's second-inning outburst was capped by a three-run double by Ivan Guadalupe, one of 13 Indian hits in the contest.

"They made some defensive mistakes and we think we're a good team," Farmington coach Mike McGuire said. "When you give a good team more than three outs in an inning, you need to make them pay, and we made them pay."

Trailing 9-2 in the sixth inning, the Falcons scored two runs and had a golden opportunity for more, but left the bases loaded. Farmington then iced the victory with four more runs in the seventh.

"I have to give Farmington credit; they made great contact with the ball and produced a lot of runs out there," Fermi coach Bob Cressotti said.

John Rappaport had four hits and three runs batted in to lead the Farmington offense. Harry Pacheco had a double and two RBI, while Tyler Hoffman and Tyler Chaia each had two hits and an RBI.

Alex Zachary led the Falcons with three hits, including a two-run home run in the fifth inning, while Tim Kertanis and David Tucker each belted a double.

Bailey Maccariello was the winning pitcher for the Indians, while Zachary took the loss for Fermi.
