Farmington Farm/Avon Commission Aim To 'Squash' Old Pumpkins
The prominent Farmington farm and the Avon Clean Energy Commission will be collecting old pumpkins/gourds all November long.

FARMINGTON/AVON, CT — An Avon environmental commission and a Farmington farm are teaming up to help folks unload their pumpkins/gourds and help the Good Earth as well.
From Saturday, Nov. 1, to Nov. 30, the Sub-Edge Farm, 199 Town Farm Road, Farmington, is hosting a pumpkin/gourd collection bin for recycling.
The collection is co-sponsored by the farm as well as the Avon Clean Energy Commission.

Of course, recycling a pumpkin doesn't mean old, rotting pumpkins will turn into new ones.
Rather, they're actually being repurposed into compost and/or biofuel, another common use of old pumpkins.

Ultimately, the goal is to keep them out of the trash/landfills, as decaying pumpkins produce methane, which isn't good for the environment. (Climate change?)
All pumpkins and gourds dumped at the farm should be unpainted and free of any non-organic materials.
The collection bin is located near the farm shop.
