Farmington Hurdler Qualifies for New England T&F Championship

Farmington High School senior Grace Dunn was one of six All-Conference athletes this season.

A Farmington High School hurdler will be competing in the New England track and field championship meet on Saturday.

Senior Grace Dunn qualified with her sixth-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles (46.41) at the State Open meet on June 3 at Willowbrook Park in New Britain, according to mysportsresults.com.

Sophomore Devon Michaelis came in 12th in the javelin throw (109-03). At the Class L State Championship on May 28, Michaelis broke the school record, throwing (120 feet), girls coach Scott Ferrigno said.

The 4 by 400-meter relay took eighth at the state open meet, recording its best time this season (4:05.53). Junior Adrianna Antigiovanni, senior Becky Kulak, freshman Annika Anderson and Dunn comprised the team.

Ferrigno was pleased with Farmington's performance as a whole this season.

"We had a small powerful team and finished at 4-3 dual meet season," he wrote in an email to Patch.

Six of Farmington's athletes earned All-Conference accolades in the CCC West Conference. Dunn, Kerry Dunn and Anika Anderson were part of the winning 4 by 400 and 4 by 100, as well as Kulak for the 4 by 100 and Antigiovanni for the 4 by 400.  Dunn (300 hurdles) and Kulak (200-meter dash) were champions in their races. Michaelis (javelin), Kerry Dunn (100-meter dash) and Anderson (400) also qualified for all-conference in their events.

"Grace Dunn has had quite a career," Ferrigno said, noting her three-event sweep at the CCC West championship and New England qualification. "One of the strongest all-around track athletes in school history."

He said she will also compete in the heptathlon next week.
