FARMINGTON/HARTFORD, CT — Farmington-based ConnectiCare, in association with the Hartford Yard Goats, hosted its inaugural Healthier Futures Wellness Expo at Dunkin’ Donuts Park last month.

The event's aim was to support the health and well-being of surrounding communities and residents, according to a Connecticare release issued Sept. 28.

Everything offered at the expo was free of charge for attendees and more than 500 residents attended the expo and more than 200 health screenings were provided.

“As our team saw in Connecticut, New York, and across the country, the COVID-19 pandemic severely impacted accessibility to essential health services,” said Karen Moran, president of ConnectiCare.

“While we continue to navigate these limitations, it’s important to keep physical, mental, and social health a top priority. We were pleased to host the Healthier Futures Wellness Expo and offer support to overcome barriers to whole-person health.”

“We’re thankful for the opportunity to work with community and health advocate ConnectiCare to make a lasting difference for Greater Hartford residents,” said Mike Abramson, Hartford Yard Goats general manager. “Although baseball is what we’re known for, it brings us great pleasure to use our state-of-the-art park for much-needed events like the Healthier Futures Wellness Expo.”

Before the expo kicked off, Yoga In Our City, presented by ConnectiCare, held a free yoga class on the Hartford Yard Goats baseball field in the morning.

The session was the last of three “Yoga In The Park” classes held this summer at the stadium.

ConnectiCare partners, including CT Foodshare, Access Health Connecticut, United Way of Central and Northeastern CT, Yoga In Our City, The Boys & Girls Club of Hartford, the Hartford Parking Authority, the American Red Cross, and many others helped make the day possible by offering a variety of health services and resources to attendees.

“Working with partners like ConnectiCare helps CT FoodShare in our efforts to alleviate hunger for families and individuals in Connecticut,” said Al Marino, CT FoodShare’s director of corporate and community giving. “Thanks to the generous donation made by ConnectiCare our team was able to hand out 500 bags of non-perishable items on expo day.”

“ConnectiCare is extremely grateful for our partners who not only supported this event but who work tirelessly to meet the unique needs of individuals across the state,” said Moran.
