Farmington Manufacturer's Massive Expansion Officially Dedicated

FARMINGTON, CT — A local manufacturing company hosted several state officials Tuesday for the grand opening of a massive expansion that aims to employ 100 more workers.

Gov. Ned Lamont and U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy joined Mott Corp. Chief Executive Officer Boris Levin to officially dedicate Mott's new, 65,000-square-foot facility in Farmington, an operation allowing the company to hire 100 more high-tech workers.

According to Lamont, the operation — which is at 1690 New Britain Ave., Farmington — will allow Mott to "quadruple the company’s clean energy business, creating up to 100 new jobs."

He said Mott, headquartered at 75 Spring, Farmington, produces cutting-edge filtration systems that are used in key industries like aerospace and clean energy.

Specifically, company officials have said the expansion will allow Mott to better serve the growing, green hydrogen manufacturing industry.

Hydrogen is, more and more, being regarded as an environmentally friendly source of energy for such entities as transportation, manufacturing, and heating of homes.

Green hydrogen, however, is called such because it is manufactured from water, not fossil fuel sources, through a process called "electrolysis."

This is where Mott Corp. is expected to help.

The Farmington company is a "global leader in producing ultra-thin, porous metal sheets, which are a critical component in the generation of green hydrogen," according to Mott.

Those thin, metal sheets made by Mott are a component in the manufacturing process for hydrogen, which Mott said demand of which is expected to increase five-fold by 2050.

So, to put it simply, Mott will make the key piece of manufacturing devices that extract hydrogen from water (essentially removing the "H" from the "H2O").

Both Lamont and Murphy praised Mott for the expansion.

"Clean energy continues to be a high-growth sector nationwide and I’m glad that a Connecticut-based company like Mott is staying one step ahead of the competition and growing here," wrote Lamont on "X" (formerly Twitter).
Murphy said Mott's ability to expand is tied to federal dollars invested recently via federal legislation.

"The green energy investments in the Inflation Reduction Act are responsible for this company’s massive growth in Connecticut," wrote Murphy on "X."
