EAST HAVEN, CT — Both schools facing off in the CIAC Class L girls volleyball finals Saturday entered the championship contest with impressive histories - 14 state titles between them, but none since 2017.

That was due to change Saturday at East Haven High School, and change it did, but not before both Farmington and St. Joseph exhibited some dazzling exchanges in a see-saw battle which came down to a winner-take-all fifth set.

When the smoke cleared, the River Hawks emerged with a 15-9 win in the deciding set to capture the school's first championship since 2014, and ninth overall.
