FARMINGTON, CT — Local police recently received a bit ofgood news from its accreditation agency, a ruling that stamps the town police department's commitment to high standards.

According to the Farmington Police Department, the FPD had its accreditation re-upped, a major measuring stick regarding how a department operates.

Key to earning re-accreditation is operating the department under strict standards as set forth by the Connecticut Police Officer Standards and Training Council (POST), the state outfit that provides training materials and guidelines to law enforcement agencies in the state.

"The award represents Farmington’s ongoing pursuit of professional excellence by pledging to comply with the standards set forth by the POST Council," wrote the FPD.

The Virginia-based Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) is also a driving force in how the FPD conducts business and something the department says it will comply with as well.
