Farmington Resident Wins International Junior Golf Tour Event

Kelly Whaley took home first in the girls division of the competition, which was held in Kissimmee, Fla.

Farmington resident Kelly Whaley took the girls division of the International Junior Golf Tour at the Falcon’s Fire Golf Club in Kissimmee, Fla. last weekend, according to a release sent to Farmington Patch.

Whaley, a student at the Hank Haney International Junior Golf Academy on Hilton Head Island, S.C., finished the two-day event with a 1-under-par 143 total, the release said. She recorded 15 pars in the final round.

“I told myself there were a lot of holes left to birdie,” Whaley said in the release. “If it gets close, you know you still have holes left. I had a one-shot lead on the last hole and had to be confident I would par it.”

Manuel Velez of Panama City, Panama finished first in the boys division, according to the release.
