FARMINGTON, CT — A local woman whose passion for helping dogs in peril is now utilizing her writing talents in the form of a new children's book to raise money for a dog rescue organization.

Cindy Marie Rider, a longtime Farmington resident, has written a book called "Sadie in the City."

Her book tells the story of "Sadie Marie," which Rider said is a true story of how a rescue dog went from pain and misery in Arkansas to a journeying to New York City.

Sadie was found "alone in the dark in the cold in Arkansas with a very bad leg injury," wrote Rider in talking about Sadie.

But, as the story goes, Sadie traveled all the way to Connecticut, then on to New York City to be with her brother, "Moses."

In Rider's words, the book chronicles Sadie's journey home and "is a story of love, friendship, joy and some tears."

Part of the proceeds of book sales go to "Adopt-A-Stray Rescue," a dog rescue organization out of Arkansas.

Rider, who has regularly rescued all sorts of dogs, not only wants to aid a rescue organization she has worked with, but wants to inspire others to rescue dogs as well.

"Rescue dogs are often times misunderstood," she wrote. "Many are abandoned by their owners for many different reasons. Please consider fostering or adopting a pet if you are able."

A former travel industry representative, Rider has four children and four grandchildren and works as a dog walker/sitter. She can be reached via email at cindyr230@aol.com.
